Cleaned shives

The cleaned shives of various fractions are valuable due to their highly absorptive property, and are, therefore, used in agriculture for animal and plant care.

Used as animal bedding, it does not require frequent replacement or other maintenance. One application of shives can last 5 to 7 days. The shives are purified from any spores and dust by a special cleaning method, which minimises the dust level in the environment. It is a 100% natural material, which was cultivated without the use of pesticides, while its low price is comparable to that of straw. This product does not only offer a perfect absorption of moisture, but also of ammonia, which, as reported by the users, reduces odours.

When used as animal bedding, it is recommended to sprinkle the shives in their place of application with a small amount of water for better absorption performance.

The cleaned hemp shives we supply may be used for mulching of plants, instead of wood chip mulch. For mulching applications, sprinkle the shives around the plants creating a 5 cm thick layer and leave it. In a few days, the top layer of shives will harden and will not be able to scatter around. This will be an excellent moisture retaining and weed growth inhibiting plant maintenance medium.

Aside from being used as a plant care material, the cleaned shives can also be used during planting and perfectly replace the use of peat. Mix cleaned shives with soil (at a 10:1 ratio) and use it for plant transplantation. It will help ensure soil fertilisation and retention of moisture.
